Screenwriters of San Diego Meetup
Now Write! editor Laurie Lamson rebooted the Screenwriters of San Diego Meetup and is offering a free monthly “Meet and Write.” The purpose is to help fellow writers get creative juices flowing, deepen knowledge of dramatic narrative storytelling principles, and be part of a creative community.
Not just for screenwriters, since much of what we explore applies to play and novel writing. Not just for San Diegans, since we're meeting on Zoom. We briefly share recent wins, accomplishments or milestones reached, talk about a screenwriting topic, and do a writing exercise.
In honor of Comic-con in San Diego next month, the topic for Wednesday, July 17 (6:30-7:30pm PDT) will be genre, with a fun, surreal writing exercise contributed to Now Write! Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror by Devorah Cutler.
Ever been wrapped up in a never-ending project?
Thanks to working on the Now Write! creative writing series (started by my aunt, Sherry Ellis), I became inspired to carry on my aunt’s legacy with a similar book for actors and have been working on it (on and off) – for a decade. This has been quite a journey and an education.
With a complex on-going project like this, it can be challenging to keep hold of the big picture. Now with the “light at the end of the tunnel” I’m seeing the book as a whole. This is the first acting book with an anthology, “many voices under one roof” approach to both acting craft and career. I thin it will be useful for actors and teachers, and also for directors and writers – to understand actors better.
Some of the 80+ contributors are also Now Write! contributors - thanks again for sharing your wit and wisdom, and your patience.
If you have insights, suggestions, new publications, or anything else to share with writers and would like to do a guest post on Now Write! please email the text, any royalty-free supporting art, your brief bio and pic. it will also be shared as a Substack Note or featured in a Now Write! newsletter like this one.
Happy Summer and Happy Writing!
